Calling all Sailors, Adventurers, and Wanderlust Seekers: If you’ve been dreaming of taking home that perfect souvenir from your travels, we-Paris has an idea for you!
French tattoo artist Sailor Roman, specialized in Sailor and Traveler tattoos, has recently opened his nautical doors at 67 rue de la Folie Mericourt in the 11th arrondissement. Born in Paris but raised in Bretagne and Normandie, Romain discovered his passion for art and nature at only five years old when he began to draw. Twenty-six years later, that same passion led to the creation of the talented Sailor Roman. An artist inspired by science, history and the mystical imagery of the nautical world. A tattooer that believes tattoos should be tailor made and therefore draws every tattoo based upon his clients requests. With service like that, it’s no surprise that his clients are pouring in from all over the world, including Australia, China, United States, Canada, Sweden, England and India.
we-Paris had the opportunity to enjoy a little tea time with Sailor Roman to discuss his inspirations, success, and his favorite rhum recipe!
w-P: Who was your childhood hero?
S.R.: Jacques Yves Cousteau, Jack London, and Captain Nemo from 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Cousteau and Captain Nemo are heros for me because they had a vision about the ecological problems coming.. and when everyone was blind and creating pollution and more problems, they were trying to do something about it. One chose a peaceful way and one chose a violent way. One was real and one wasn’t.
w-P: What is something that you are fascinated to draw?
S.R.: Nature. Flowers, Corals, Crystals, really all things of nature. When you take the time to really study it, it’s fascinating.
